F or over four decades Arthur B. Hodess has continued to treat and prevent diseases of the heart and the blood vessels. Dr. Hoddess earned a Bachelor of Arts from Boston University in 1970 and a Doctor of Medicine from Columbia University in 1974, and soon after embarked on a career that would prove to be fruitful. To hone his medical skills he began his career as an intern at the Hospital of University Pennsylvania in 1974 and a year later started his residency in medicine. He continued to remain at the institution becoming a fellow in cardiology in 1977 and working his way to assistant instructor for the department of medicine. From 1979 until his departure in 1981, he served as clinical associate for the department of medicine. After parting ways with the Hospital of University Pennsylvania, he made a home at Brandywine Hospital earning positions, including chairman of the department of medicine and

president of Brandywine Valley Cardiovascular Associates. Currently he serves as the attending cardiologist, director of critical care, chief of cardiology and on the board of trustees, all positions he have held since 1979, 1989, 1990 and 2009 respectively. Aside from his professional career Dr. Hodess has served in many capacities within his community. He has served as vice president of the Chestnut Hollow Homeowners Association and on its board of directors as well as on the board of directors of Beth Israel Congregation. With the experience he has garnered throughout his professional career he has been able to contribute articles to professional journals in the field. His greatest professional gratification comes from treating critically-ill patients in the intensive care unit. Dr. Hodess remains a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Angiology, the American Society of Echocardiography, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Cardiology and a member of Brandywine Hospital, the Society of Cardiovascular ComputedTomography, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the Cardiac Electrophysiology Society.
