J enny Pickworth Glusker’s passion for chemistry was inspired by her parents, who were both physicians. Interested in the field of science, Dr. Glusker chose to pursue a career in medicine. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry in 1953, a Master of Arts in chemistry in 1957, and a doctorate in philosophy from Oxford University. Dr. Glusker honed in on her research skills as a postdoctoral research fellow at the California Institute of Technology for one year. After completing her research, she relocated to Philadelphia, making her home at the Institute for Cancer Research. During her tenure at the institution, she was a research fellow, research associate from 1957 to 1967, assistant member, associate member from 1967 to 1969, senior member from 1979 to 2003, senior member emeritus, and professor emeritus. Her research there led to a better understanding of the three-dimensional operation of the

enzymes associated with small molecules involved in the citric acid cycle. Dr. Glusker has contributed her knowledge to the field as a co-author and editor of several chemistry-related books and has written articles in numerous scientific professional journals. Her dedication and research have earned her a lifetime honorary fellowship at Somerville College, an Oxford grant from the Department of Science and Industrial Research, and an introductory lecture celebrating the International Year of Crystallography. Dr. Glusker remains active in her field as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Royal Society of Chemistry, the American Crystallographic Association, and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She is also a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Chemical Society, and the American Physical Society.
