P eter William Curreri’s hard work and dedication have led to a successful career in the medical field spanning over five decades. Dr. Curreri’s professional career began at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as an intern from 1962 to 1963 and a resident in surgery from 1963 to 1968. He thereafter entered the education field as an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center for three years. From 1974 to 1977 he served as an associate professor of surgery for the University of Washington School of Medicine. He relocated to New York City, where he became a professor of surgery at the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Science. In 1981 he settled in Alabama, becoming a professor and chairman of surgery at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine from 1981 to 1988. He has been chairman of Strategem of Alabama, Inc. since 1988. Dr. Curreri has contributed numerous articles to professional journals. To prepare for his career,

he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Swarthmore College in 1958 and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1962. He remains active as a past president of the American Association for Surgery of Trauma, the American Burn Association, and the Society of University Surgeons. He is also a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Association for Academic Surgery. Dr. Curreri is a recipient of the decorated Meritorious Service Medal, the Research Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health, and the Curtis P. Artz Award from the American Trauma Society.
