N urse educators like Dr. aspiring nurses the ins and outs of patient care. Dr. Battey is a tireless advisor and mentor, developing curricula and teaching these students so that they are successful in their future careers. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in nursing, a Master of Science in nursing and a PhD, and became a registered nurse in Arkansas, Tennessee, New York, Virginia, North Carolina and California to ensure she would she would be well-equipped for her career. In addition to her formal education, Dr. Battey completed postgraduate work at the National Center for Nursing Research’s Qualitative Methodology Institute. the director of graduate studies at the University of North Dakota School of Nursing. With her extensive experience, she initiated two new nursing programs: a program in associate degree nursing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and an RN completion baccalaureate program at Memphis State University. She was also a professor in the adult health nursing department of the East Carolina University College of Nursing for 10 years. Dr. Battey has served as a consultant and president of Duldt & Associates, Inc., since 1985. In her time as consultant, she has developed a wide variety of courses, workshops and seminars in nursing, communication, critical thinking, spiritual assessment, leadership and team building. She is a known theorist who has accomplished a vast amount of research in her field, written several books on nursing, and contributed to health and nursing journals, books, computer- assisted introduction programs and communication research tools. She remains active in the field as a member of the American Nurses Association.
