Dr. Anderson treated patients of all ages and educated future ophthalmologists. To prepare for his medical career, he earned a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. As an intern at the University of Kansas Medical Center and a resident at the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, he honed his skills to become an ophthalmologist at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic in Houston, Frank Gist Anderson are medically trained doctors
Texas. After leaving the clinic, he opened his own private practice in Bryan, Texas that was in operation from 1964 to 1993. In addition to practicing medicine, he served as a clinical professor of ophthalmology and professor of humanities in medicine at Texas A&M College of Medicine until 2001. Dr. Anderson is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In his practice years, he also was a fellow of the Texas Society of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the Texas A&M University Legacy Society, Brazos-Robertson County Medical Society and the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America. He is a co-author of “The History of Medicine in Brazos County” and has contributed articles to professional journals in the field. Dr. Anderson served as chief of surgery and president of the medical staff at St. Joseph Hospital and Humana Hospital in Bryan-College Station, Texas. He was a core investigator in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration intraocular lens study and a visiting ophthalmologist at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
