R oger Davis Masters is a political scientist, with over 50 years of professional experience in the field. When Dr. Masters was younger, his father owned a business that he thought he would one day take over. One day, while walking home from school, he had a sudden realization that he wanted to be a teacher. It was from that point on that he dedicated his life to being an educator. In 1961 he began his professional career at Yale University where he held the position of instructor of the department of political science for a year before earning the position of assistant professor, a position he held from 1962 to 1967. After leaving the institution he made a home at Dartmouth College beginning as a professor from 1973 to 1998. success, earning many other positions, including John Sloan Dickey Third Century professor, chairman of the department, Nelson A. Rockefeller professor and research professor. In 1998, he earned the title of professor emeritus. As a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Political Science Association, the Association for Political and Life Science, and the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, Dr. Masters contributed his knowledge and expertise as an author, editor and co-editor of many books related to the political science and science fields. Throughout his career he has garnered many fellowships, including a Fulbright Fellow at the Sciences Po, Joint Yale University Social Science Research Council Fellow, Guggenheim Fellow and Hastings Center for Ethics and Life Sciences Fellow. Dr. Masters’ five decade career is backed by a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in 1955, a Master of Arts in political science and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1958 and 1961 respectively.
