A s a diplomate of the Board of Infectious Diseases Joseph R. Masci diagnosed and treated injuries and illnesses, prescribed medications and counseled patients on their health for over three decades. Dr. Masci began his career as an instructor of medicine at Boston University School of Medicine from 1979 to 1980. He made a home at Mount Sinai School of Medicine thereafter obtaining many positions in the education capacity, including instructor of medicine from 1982 to 1984, assistant professor of clinical medicine from 1984 to 1988, assistant professor of medicine from 1988 to 1990, associate professor of medicine from 1990 to 2003 director of medicine and professor of medicine, positions he has held since 2002 and 2003 respectively. Mount Sinai, he also made a home for himself at Elmhurst Hospital Center, serving as associate director of medicine from 1987 to 2002, chief of infectious disease from 1999 to 2002, and director of medicine, a position he has held since 2002. His extensive education prepared him to lead a successful career in medicine earning a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University in 1972 and a Doctor of Medicine from New York University in 1976. He has authored many works related to his field and is a peer a reviewer for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a position he has held since 1994. Dr. Masci is a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, the Royal Society of Medicine, and the American College of Physicians and holds memberships with many medicinal organizations. He is the recipient of the Faculty Council of Academic Excellence Award from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, the Ruth Abramsm Award from the New York State Aids Institute, and the Dr. Linda Laubenstein Award.
