D iplomate of the American Board of Psychological Specialties and the American College of Forensic Examiners, Joseph William Kovach has over five decades of experience in the field. Dr. Kovach earned a Bachelor of Arts in speech from St. Joseph’s College in 1969, a Master of Arts in psychology from Roosevelt University in 1974, and a Doctor of Psychology in clinical psychology fromThe Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 1986. In 1965, he began working as an assistant corporate merchandising manager for Kroch’s & Brenatano’s. After five years in that position, he became regional operations manager of Interstate Department Stores, Inc. With the experience he gained from both positions, he began to earn many leadership positions, including director of Buzan Centre Ltd., chair of the department of natural and social sciences and the department of psychology at Calumet College of St. Joseph. Calumet College, as well as president of JosephW. Kovach and Associates, Ltd. In the past, Dr. Kovach has also developed employee assistance and wellness programs for business and industry and has also developed curriculum on problem solving and creativity. His international work has taken him to Asia, Europe and Korea, where he served on a team of consultants that established a groundbreaking family support system for the U.S. Eight Army. After the fall of the Soviet Union, he provided assistance to Lithuania in moving into a free market economy. Dr. Kovach is a member of the Oxford Roundtable on Human Rights and has presented papers and guest lectures, and participated in a wide variety of forums at universities across the country and in Europe. Dr. Kovach’s skills and expertise aided in his opportunity to be a columnist for many journals and in the area of violence and prediction. Additionally, he has also taught undergraduate and graduate students as a professor at Calumet College of St. Joseph and served on the board of trustees for over 15 years.
