W hen Dr. Hammam Hasan was 5 years old, he was told as he entered kindergarten the first day that he would go to college. Having been raised by two parents who both had master’s degrees, he would often see his father studying in the middle of night. On Saturdays, his father would take him on a college campus to see people attending weekend classes so he would understand that it took hard work and dedication to succeed. Many of his family members were educated, so it was only befitting that he would follow in their footsteps. Dr. Hasan earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Washington State University and a Master of Education and Ph.D. in special education from the University of Washington. able to design programs for students classified as seriously behaviorally disabled in grades four through 12 in Seattle Public Schools. From 2002 to 2004 he worked in a self-contained high school program in Hawaii for students who were categorized as emotionally disturbed. His extensive background in the field has led him to work at length with gang-involved students and troubled children and young adults. Additionally, he has worked as a faculty advisor for the Council for Exceptional Children. At the beginning of his career, Dr. Hasan turned a lifelong love of hydroplanes into the revolutionary Project Hydroplane Racing Program. This innovative program was designed specifically to encourage students of all ages and backgrounds to maintain an interest in school while allowing them to bring what they have learned in life to the educational setting and be in control of their own learning. Dr. Hasan believes that education is at the center of everyday life and attributes his success to being able to lead by example.
