F inancial executive and small business owner John Patrick Gregan has more than 45 years of professional experience. Mr. Gregan honed his skills and expertise before becoming president and founder of SMATAX Tax Services, a company that focuses on individual, corporate, partnership, and state and military tax preparation, along with tax planning and IRS representation. As a licensed enrolled agent, he has been assisting clients with their financial and income tax statements since 1979. A graduate of St. Ambrose University, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in accounting in 1970 and began his career soon after as an internal revenue agent for the IRS in Davenport, Iowa. After serving one year in that position, he became a revenue agent and computer audit specialist for the Office of International Operations in Washington, D.C. Additionally, he served as the Maryland delegate to the International Society of Public Accountants Convention in 1987 and 1992 and was on the board of directors for The Home Inc. Mr. Gregan remains active in his field as a member of the National Society of Public Accountants, the Maryland Society of Accounting & Tax Professionals, the National Association of Enrolled Agents, the Maryland/DC Society of Enrolled Agents, and the National Society of Tax Professionals.
