S heldon Howard Elsen was a partner in the firm of Orans, Elsen Lupert & Brown LLP, where practiced areas included litigation, international civil cases, white-collar criminal cases, trusts and estates, from 1965 until 2011. He prepared for his career by earning a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University in 1950, and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Jurisprudence from Harvard University. After earning his degrees, he gained admittance to the New York State Bar in 1959 and the United States Supreme Court in 1971. Mr. Elsen has taught future lawyers as an adjunct professor at Columbia University Law School since 1969. He was an assistant United States attorney for the southern district of New York, chief counsel of the New York Moreland Act Commission on the Urban Development Corporation, and a consultant to the President’s Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Justice. JAMS (formerly Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services, Inc.) since 2006. He remains active in the field as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and member of the New York City Bar Association, for which he has served as vice president and chairman of the committee on federal legislation, the committee on federal courts, the nominating committee and the committee on amenities in the land use process for New York City. He is also a faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and was an adviser on the principles of transnational civil procedures for the American Law Institute.
